PUBERTY

Puberty is the period of transition from childhood to adult sexual maturation. It is the period of gradual development of secondary sexual characters. There are profound biological, morphological, and psychological changes that lead to full sexual maturity and eventually fertility

The most common order is beginning of the growth spurt → breast budding (thelarche) → pubic and axillary hair growth (adrenarche) → peak growth in height → menstruation (menarche). All these changes are usually completed between the age of 10 and 16 years.

Precocious Puberty

Precocious puberty has been defined as the development of secondary sexual characteristics before the age of 8 in girls

Precocious puberty if breast development or pubic hair is present at <7 years

Symptoms

Precocious puberty signs and symptoms include development of the following before age 8 in girls and before age 9 in boys.

  • Breast growth and first period in girls
  • Enlarged testicles and penis, facial hair and deepening voice in boys
  • Pubic or underarm hair
  • Rapid growth
  • Acne
  • Adult body odor

CAUSES

  • Constitutional- It is due to premature activation of hypothalamo- pituitary ovarian axis. There is secretion of gonadotropins and gonadal steroids due to premature release of gnrh. Gnrh dependent—80% (complete, central, isosexual or true)
  • Juvenile primary hypothyroidism
  • Intracranial lesions—trauma, tumor or infection
  • Hydrocephalus
  • Exposure to external sources of estrogen or testosterone, such as creams or ointments
  • Estrogen Or Androgen Intake due intake of cow milk (cow injected with BOVINE GROWTH HORMONE to increase milk secrection)
  • Obese
  • Pesticide exposure appears to speed puberty in boys,girls
  • Class of chemicals identified as endocrine disruptors for their effects on hormone secreting glands.

  • Avoid chemical pesticides, chemical fertilizer for farming
  • Avoid herbicides

  • Avoid rodenticide
  • Eat organic fruits, vegetable
  • Regular excersise
  • Avoid smoking
  • Eating foods high in fiber
  • Drinking an adequate amount of fluids
  • Avoid estrogen ,testosterone, such as creams or ointment
