Cirrhosis of Liver consist of the development of fibrosis to the point that there is architectural distortion with the formation of regenerative nodules. This results in a decrease in hepatocellular mass, and thus function, and an alteration of blood flow.

Signs and symptoms

  • Vague right upper quadrant abdominal pain
  • Fever
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Anorexia
  • Malaise

  • Upper gastrointestinal (gi) hemorrhage
  • For women, absent or loss of periods not related to menopause
  • For men, loss of sex drive, breast enlargement (gynecomastia) or testicular atrophy
  • Confusion, drowsiness and slurred speech (hepatic encephalopathy)

  • Liver and spleen may be enlarged, with the liver edge being firm and nodular

Prevention

  • Avoid chemical pesticides, chemical fertilizer for farming
  • Avoid herbicides
  • Avoid weedicides

  • Eating foods high in fiber
  • Drinking an adequate amount of fluids
